At night ladies apply Mehandi (Heena) to their palms and soles as an indication of their Sohaag (happy married life). Clay idols of Shiva and Parvati, to be worshiped during the festival, are made by local craftsmen. They're brought home and decorated, and placed in a basket with grass and flowers. Wheat plays an important role in the rituals. It's sown in small earthen pots (kunda) and the wheat grass is used for worship on the final day. Water pots are also decorated with traditional Rajasthani maandna (a special type of painting done with lime water).

in the hope of finding a good husband. Every day, they sing traditional
Rajasthani folk songs related to the festival as well.

girls, and married women. Every day, they dress in traditional ceremonial Rajasthan

(Parvati), beseeching them for marital bliss. The festival ends on the
following third day of no moon (amawas) of month chaitra. Thus the celebration

- Nagaur Fair: This 8 day long Nagaur fair of Jodhpur is considered the second biggest fair in India. Held every year in the months of January-February, this one is also known as the Cattle Fair of Nagaur because it is mainly about trading of camels, horses and bullocks. These animals are decorated lavishly before owners bring them to the fair. Even the owners of the cattle dress up in traditional colourful turbans and flaunt their long moustaches.
Other than these, sheep,
Marwari horses, spices, wooden items, iron crafts and camel leather accessories
are also traded during the Nagaur fair. It hosts the largest red chilly market
of India as well, which is more commonly called the Mirchi Bazaar.Sports
activities such as tug of war, camel races, bullock races, cock fights and more
are another major attraction of the fair, which add to the fun and charm of the
celebrations. Nagaur Fair is also the time to get entertained by jugglers,
puppeteers, storytellers, folk artists of the place and enjoy the tunes of
